Tuesday with Toni: More Honey Bee Flowers

I'm back with another card that uses the Honey Bee Flower Builder Background Stencils. They're definitely going to be getting lots of use by me.  So many possibilities!

Here I used the stencils on the card base with Distress Oxide Mustard Seed and Worn Lipstick. I then diecut Honey Bee Birthday Bash 6x6 paper using the Mama Elephant Slim Card Basics dies.

I tried something different and created a little scene on top of the Happy Birthday paper with the MFT Mini Cloud Edges stencil and Distress Oxide Peacock Feathers as well as the Lawn Fawn Hillside stencils with Distress Oxide Mowed Lawn and Twisted Citron.

I colored up the Honey Bee Gnome Place Like Home goat using Copic BV20, E41, E42, E43, E44, RV13, and RV14.  I stamped the Pretty Pink Posh Hedgehog Friends sentiments onto the speech bubbles that came with the Mama Elephant slim card dies. (Bang for the buck!)

Here's how I was inspired:

This turned out exactly how I hoped!  My stepdaughter is celebrating her birthday this week.  She's an avid reader and loves the movie, How To Train Your Dragon. The main image is from the BB Magical Friends set, perfect!

The banner and the first sentiment is from SY Sending Sweet Celebration Wishes.  The Yay sentiment is from Bitty Birthday Wishes.

Tuesday with Toni: Honey Bee Flowers

Hello, everyone. We took off last week here at Doodlebugs to allow ourselves time to process everything that's been happening here in our city, our state, our country and our world.  I personally am finding it hard to keep my head above water but have found some comfort in being able to continue in my global health research support position, make masks and send out happy mail.  I'd love to hear what you've been doing during this time to cope.

Speaking of happy mail, these cards certainly brings a smile to my face.

For the first, I used a piece of Honey Bee Birthday Bash 6x6 paper for the background--you thought I used Distress Oxides maybe?  I then diecut the Honey Bee Flower Petal Cover Plate in white.

I left the diecut in the die and applied dots of Gina K glue to each flower.  I then pressed the Honey Bee ombre paper onto that, using the back of my mousepad (or the insert from a MISTI; anything with give will do).  Once the glue had dried, I carefully removed the die and remaining diecut.

I used the Honey Bee Flower Builder Background Stencil and Distress Oxide Mustard Seed to add centers to the daisies.  I was so excited to discover that the HB cover plates and stencils work together so you can mix and match however you want!

Next I stamped the MFT Hanging With My Gnomies image and colored it with Copics. He's so so cute!  I diecut image using a circle die and an MFT scalloped circle frame. The final touch was stamping the sentiment onto a Lawn Fawn Simple Wavy Banner.

The next card uses the same Honey Bee Flower Petal Cover Plate die but the flower outline part leftover from the above card. 

Before gluing it down to the card base, I used the Honey Bee Flower Builder Background stencil again to add multicolor flower centers with Distress Oxide Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry and Mustard Seed.

On top of that I added the Mama Elephant Big Scripty Hello and an embossed MFT Essential Sentiment.  Super easy and colorfully fun.

A message from Doodlebugs...

As many of you did, I woke up to numerous social media hashtags and calls to action in response to the murder of George Floyd and the protesting occurring in our communities. As I thought about, and researched how I should show up for each of these, I saw people and business putting up posts, taking down posts, modifying and changing hashtags, and correcting people, not realizing the unintended consequences that accompanied many of these.

I've been searching for days, for words, for action, for books, for ways that I can better serve the black community. Heartbroken, and trying to process the horrible injustices that I personally, have done little to fix, other than offering my shock and disgust.

So, I decided to post a black square in solidarity, with the commitment to do more. I'm combing through numerous resources for organizations that I can support through donations, who are already on the ground, doing the work. I've ordered books and I'm listening to activists, hoping they will help me better understand, what I do not know and how, through my actions, I can best bring about change. I'm calling out racism when I see it and examining my own conscience. I vote, and I'll be doing more to support voting rights in this country.

Finally, I will be taking a brief break from social media, email, and the blog. I'm still here, shipping orders, answering emails, and taking care of business. I just won't be doing any marketing of Doodlebugs. It just doesn't feel right.
