Using A Sunshine Stencil For an Underwater Scene...

 

Hello and happy Wednesday everyone. I am sharing this fun ocean-themed Father's Day card with you today. I used the Sunray Background Stencil to create the rays of light shining in the ocean. 

I began by using the largest rectangle from the Basic Rectangles Creative Cuts to die-cut two stitched rectangles in order to create the base panel of the card and to create the sandy area. I then colored the images with Copic markers. To create the scene I used images from the Keep On Swimming,  Ocean Shell-fie,  You Are Sublime, Mermaid For You, and Pool Party stamp sets. 

Next, I added color to the base panel using Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, and Prize Ribbon Distress Oxide inks. Next, I used the Sunray Background Stencil to add the light streaming through look using Unicorn Hero Hues Pigment ink. I then added color to the sand area using Gathered Twigs and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks.     

I then heat embossed the sentiment from the Magic Spring Messages stamp set using Versamark ink and WOW! White Embossing Powder. I then used the Magic Messages die to die cut the sentiment. Next, I used the Tailgate Alphabet die set to die cut the word dad. I then stamped the sentiment from the Keep On Swimming stamp set onto the sandy layer using MFT Extreme Black ink.

Beach Happy One Layer Card

Hi, everyone!  Toni here with you today sharing a refreshing summer scene.  I'm so jealous!

This month on the DB blog, we're focusing on one layer cards. These can be quite challenging, depending on your mindset. I love one layer cards because they force me to think outside the box and work a little harder too.  Let me explain.

In this example, I stamped Avery Elle Beachy bunny first then the umbrella which I wanted to appear as though it were behind her.  This required me to mask off the bunny's head.  Inkadinkado Masking Paper to the rescue!

Next I stamped the Sunny Studio Ocean View image but didn't mask the card front.  Instead, I masked the right side of the beach and water.  Those were just straight lines so I drew them back in around the bunny and umbrella.

I colored the scene with Zigs and am quite pleased with the sunset.  I used Derwent fine and medium tip water brushes which worked a treat with the Zigs. Just look at those colors.

Can you imagine seeing this in real life? This would be a dream vacation for me. Heaven!

Summer Flowers and no-line coloring

 

We're feeling those lazy, hazy, crazy hot days of Summer in Michigan - a good time to spend a bit of time in the AC water coloring some of Altenew's fabulous Paint-a-Flower sets... for some reason I just can't get my Hydrangeas to bloom, even though the plants themselves are gorgeous!  I'll take any advice you might have for success!

I've used the 'no-line' water coloring technique today that starts by stamping these gorgeous Hydrangeas in Distress Antique Linen ink onto a good quality watercolor paper like this one from Strathmore.

Take your time, keep the water to a minimum, and let each layer dry between -

that's my best advice for achieving good results using your favorite watercolor marker, or water color pan set - I've used my Zigs today starting in the shadows, and working my way out towards the highlights of each petal - using a good quality watercolor brush to move the ink.

This card took two days to complete!!

I found just the sentiment I wanted in the Altenew Paint-a-Flower Fashion Monger Dahlia set, and kept my card design very simple.

Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers

Using A Stencil on Kraft-Colored Cardstock...

 

Hello and happy Wednesday everyone. I am sharing this summer-themed birthday card with you today. I used the cute new Pool Party stamp set from Lawn Fawn. 

I began by using the largest rectangle from the Basic Rectangles Creative Cuts die set to die-cut the base layer of the card from kraft-colored cardstock. I then used the Tropical Leaves Background Layering Stencils set to add the tropical leaves to the die-cut base. I used Distress Oxide inks along with a deeper colored ink from Lawn Fawn in order for the colors to show up on the kraft cardstock. I used Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Rainforest, Spiced Marmalade, Dried Marigold, Lucky Clover, Broken China, and Mermaid Lagoon inks to add the color to the leaves. 

I then used the Nesting Hexagons die set from Waffle Flower to create the tropical swimming area for the little sloth. I added color to the die cut using  Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon, and  Rainforest ink. Next, I used Copic markers to color the images from the Pool Party stamp set and the leaves from the Toucan Do It stamp set.

I then heat embossed the sentiment from the stamp set using Versamark ink and WOW! White Embossing Powder.
